History

The history of DBR AG is closely related to the history of German inland shipping. The company was founded on the 1st of October 1949, as Deutsche Schifffahrts- und Umschlagszentrale - DSU (The German Transport and Transshipment Central).

In initial years of its existence, the company carried out towing, cargo haulage and passenger transport services.

In 1957, due to extending the company's scope with transshipment and shipping services, DSU was renamed to Deutsche Binnenreederei (DBR, German Inland Shipping) and became the sole inland shipping transport and logistics enterprise in East Germany.

DBR is often called a pioneer in the load pushing technique, cheaper and more efficient than load hauling.

In 2001 the company was reorganized and transformed into a joint-stock company (Deutsche Binnenreederei AG).

In 2007 DBR AG was bought by Polish company OT Logistics S.A. (formerly Odratrans S.A.). Joining the fleets of OT Logistics S.A. and DBR AG together created one of the biggest inland fleets in Europe.
